How to Use the Arkezon Centering Tool:
The Arkezon Centering Tool helps evaluate the centering of cards by comparing the Right/Left and Top/Bottom proportions. It ensures you can accurately assess centering percentages, which is critical for grading collectibles like trading cards, sports cards, and more. Here’s how to use it step-by-step:
Step 1: Measure the Card's Borders
Place the card in front of you and visually inspect the borders on all sides (Right, Left, Top, and Bottom).
Use a ruler, caliper, or grading template to measure the thickness of each border.
Step 2: Calculate the Ratios
Divide the width of the Right border by the total width of both the Right and Left borders. This gives you the Right/Left ratio.
Example: If the right border is 6mm and the left is 4mm, the total is 10mm. The ratio is 6/10 (60%) on the right and 4/10 (40%) on the left = 60/40.
Repeat the same process for the Top and Bottom borders to find the Top/Bottom ratio.
Step 3: Match the Ratios to the Chart
Locate the ratios you calculated (e.g., 60/40) in the Centering Percentages Chart.
If your ratios match or are better than 60/40 (highlighted in bold on the chart), your card meets professional grading standards for centering.
Example: 60/40 centering is common for higher-grade cards. Ratios closer to 50/50 indicate perfect centering.
Step 4: Interpret the Results
Perfect Centering (50/50): Both Right/Left and Top/Bottom ratios are identical, meaning the card is evenly centered.
Acceptable Centering: Ratios like 60/40 or 55/45 are acceptable for high-grade cards but may not be perfect.
Off-Center Cards: Ratios such as 80/20 or worse suggest significant off-centering, which can lower the card's grade.
Pro Tips:
Use magnification tools to spot slight imperfections.
